Suspension Insulator Components

Suspension insulators consist of the following elements:

  • One dielectric made of toughened glass with appropriate properties and shape for environmental conditions.
  • One hot-dip galvanized nodular or ductile malleable cast iron cap.
  • One hot-dip galvanized forged steel pin.
  • Cap and pin assembly using aluminous cement for thermomechanical strength.

Lastly, the insulator cap has a stainless steel or phosphor bronze locking device (split pin) which secures the coupling of the units.

The pins may be protected using an anti-corrosion zinc sleeve (sacrificial anode) upon request, strongly recommended for lines with heavy pollution.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the "240" in U240B stand for?
The "240" indicates a rated mechanical failing load of 240kN, which is approximately equivalent to 24 tons of force.
Which international standards do these insulators follow?
The products are manufactured in accordance with IEC60383-1:1993, GB/T1001.1, and connection structures comply with IEC60120 and BS 3288 part III.
What material is used for the dielectric part?
The dielectric is made of high-quality toughened glass, designed to provide excellent insulation and withstand varying climatic conditions.
What is the difference between W-pin and R-pin?
These are types of locking pins used for securing the connection. By default, the U240B uses an R-pin unless special instructions are provided for a W-pin.
Why is a zinc sleeve recommended for heavy pollution areas?
The sacrificial zinc sleeve acts as an anti-corrosion layer (sacrificial anode), protecting the steel pin from accelerated corrosion in harsh or highly polluted environments.
What are the dimensions of the U240/170 model?
The model has a structure height of 170mm, a disc diameter of 280mm, and a creepage distance of 400mm.
