Macro Industry Insights & Technical Roadmap

Navigating global grid reliability challenges using advanced toughened glass insulation tech

Global Enterprise Procurement Trends

Faced with volatile supply chains and aging electrical infrastructure, power utilities require reliable and certified manufacturers. U70BLP glass insulators, with a rated mechanical load of 70kN, meet international standards (IEC 60305, IEC 60383). These products are critical components for high-voltage substations and long-distance transmission projects, providing durable performance in areas with high air pollution and salt spray.

Anti-Pollution Technology & RTV Coatings

Areas with industrial emissions or coastal winds face salt spray and dust build-up. The U70BLP anti-pollution model features a deep profile design that extends the creepage distance (146/320/550 mm), preventing surface flashover. Additionally, Room Temperature Vulcanized (RTV) silicone-coated glass insulators provide hydrophobic properties that resist leakage currents and minimize maintenance overheads.

Toughened Glass vs. Porcelain & Composites

Toughened glass provides notable advantages over alternative insulation options. In the event of internal stress or a power surge, toughened glass fractures in a controlled, visible manner. This "self-shattering" behavior simplifies line inspections, allowing utility operators to locate and replace faulty units quickly, avoiding costly outages.

Comprehensive Glass Insulator Profile Catalog

Tailored structural designs to withstand severe environmental factors, line tensions, and pollution loads

Standard Profile

Features shallow, widely spaced ribs that are easily self-cleaned by wind and rain. The leakage distance exceeds baseline specifications in IEC 60305, making it suitable for clean or low-pollution regions.

Anti-Fog / Anti-Pollution Profile

Designed with deep and widely spaced under-ribs to prevent arc bridging in humid, saline, or dusty areas. This profile provides a high leakage-to-spacing ratio of approximately 3.2, making it suitable for marine or heavily industrial environments.

Open Profile

Lacks under-ribs and features an extended disc diameter to prevent the accumulation of dust and sand. Excellent for desert transmission paths subject to windstorms, and effective for dead-end strings to reduce ice bridging.

External Shed Profile

Equipped with dual external ribs that limit particulate accumulation and facilitate manual cleaning. This design delivers a creepage rating equivalent to anti-fog profiles, performing well in saline soils and heavy industrial zones.

Triple-Shed Type

Constructed with three distinct umbrella discs on a single body. This design provides extended creepage distances and self-cleaning performance, making it suitable for ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission networks in challenging terrains.

Ground-Wires Profile

Integrates internal or external hardware to connect transmission structures directly to ground wires. This profile safely routes lightning surges, protecting downstream equipment.

Application Industry

Our products are mainly high-strength glass insulators used in low voltage, high voltage, ultra-high voltage, extra-high voltage AC (DC) electric transmission lines.

Technical Q&A: Glass Isolator U70blp

Answers to common questions from grid engineers and procurement managers regarding toughened glass insulators

What are the primary specifications of the U70BLP glass insulator?

The U70BLP is an anti-pollution, double-shed toughened glass disc suspension insulator designed for high voltage lines. It features a rated mechanical load of 70kN. The structural dimensions typically include a spacing of 146mm, a nominal disc diameter of 320mm, and a creepage distance of 550mm, ensuring performance in polluted environments.

Why is toughened glass preferred over porcelain for U70BLP units?

Toughened glass provides high mechanical strength and thermal stability. In the event of damage, it is designed to shatter into small, harmless fragments while the core remains structurally intact. This "self-shattering" mechanism simplifies inspections by allowing maintenance crews to visually spot broken insulators from the ground, eliminating the need for line climbing measurements.

Which testing standards do QOCI glass insulators comply with?

All QOCI glass insulators, including the U70BLP series, are designed, manufactured, and tested in compliance with IEC 60305, IEC 60383, and ANSI specifications. Quality control procedures include mechanical fail-safe testing, thermal shock testing, and high-voltage steep-front impulse testing.

What are the lead times and customized coating options for U70BLP?

With an annual capacity of 39,000 tons, QOCI maintains a consistent supply chain for large grid projects. Standard lead times range from 4 to 8 weeks, depending on quantity. We also offer factory-applied RTV silicone coatings for installations in heavy chemical or salt-fog environments.
